Hi

I've just ordered a new computer from Dell, (coming Thursday night, excellent speed of delivery)  In my old comp I have a 300gb hd which I want to use.  I know that if I open the new one up it will invalidate my warranty and I don't want to do this.
So questtion, should I buy one of the caddy's and put my old hd in that, and are they easy to fit. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Marie

Hi mariegriff,

As far as I know you will not invalidate your warranty by fitting a second hard drive.  Some of the dell systems even come with an internal caddy especially for that purpose :). If not, you can buy one on ebay for a few quid.

According to my knowledge, It does validate your warranty- External hdd caddies are great, they are simple to install your hard drive in, they work a treat  Cheesy You could purchase one off eBay for not much if not I have seen some at my local computer fair for around £20

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply, If my warranty allows me to fit my old drive then I will. Its just that I have almost 60gigs of audio books on it,( I have a very boring job and if I didn't listen to my books I'd got mad). So I need to fit it as soon as possible, once I've tested the new one of course, to see if everythings alright.
I think I'd better pop over to ebay to have a look.
Thanks again for the reply.

I cant see how this can void your warranty, if the pc has to go back to dell just take the disk out.
we often change disks and add dvd writers to ours at work and never have any problems with warranty's.

Warranty is fine, we have installed firewire cards and internal HDD's in several of ours and two have gone back to dell with no problems.
